Alternating curls target the biceps and forearms. When done from a standing position, this move also engages your core. It’s one of the best moves for building a stronger, bigger biceps. The alternating of each arm helps prevent muscular imbalances. This exercise only requires the movement of the elbow joint.
How to do it
- 1Stand up straight, with your knees slightly bent and your arms at your sides. Hold a dumbbell in each hand. Keep your back straight.
- 2Raise each dumbbell towards your shoulders using an overhand grip. The opposite arm should be resting at thigh level.
- 3As you lift the weight, rotate the palm your hand and squeeze the biceps. Only your forearms should move.
- 4Return to the starting position. Twist your palms back as you lower the dumbbell.
⚠️ Common mistakes
- Use momentum to lift the dumbbells
- Swing your elbows
