How to train your abs
Abs respond to short exercises done well and repeated: crunches, planks, leg raises and their variations cover the rectus abdominis, the obliques and the lower abs. No equipment needed: a mat and eight minutes are enough.
Here you'll find every exercise on video, with step-by-step form, the most common mistakes and the muscles involved. Start at beginner level, keep your lower back on the floor and your neck relaxed, and add reps only when your form is clean: if the movement breaks, you went too fast. Consistency beats volume: three sessions a week for four weeks.
Since 2007 we've trained you wherever, however and whenever you want, with professionalism and passion. Download our app and start today.

- How many times a week should I train abs?
- Three or four, on alternate days. Abs recover fast, but they shouldn't be trained every day when you start.
- Do I need equipment for ab exercises?
- No. Every exercise on this page is bodyweight only, on a mat.
- Why does my neck hurt during crunches?
- You're pulling with your hands. Keep your fingertips barely touching your temples, look at a point above you and start the movement from your abs.
