How to train your triceps

The triceps are two thirds of the arm: if you want arms, you start here. They train by extending the elbow with bench or chair dips, close-grip push-ups, overhead extensions and kickbacks, and that's all it takes.

Here you'll find the exercises on video with form, common mistakes and the muscles involved, almost all bodyweight. Elbows close to the body and a full movement to lockout: that last stretch, the one almost nobody finishes, is exactly where the triceps works. As soon as your elbows flare, the work moves into your chest and shoulder.

Frequently asked questions

Are dips bad for the shoulders?
Don't go below ninety degrees at the elbow and keep your shoulders down: the load stays on the triceps.
How often?
Twice a week, also at the end of a chest workout.
Without equipment?
Diamond push-ups and dips between two chairs are enough for months.
