This isolation move hits the brachialis muscle and forearms. Unlike traditional barbell curls, it requires an overhand grip. The reverse barbell curl helps build bigger arms, pushing the peak of your biceps up higher. It also adds variety to your workout and strengthens your grip. It can be performed with a barbell, an EZ bar, or an Olympic bar.
How to do it
- 1From a standing position, grab the barbell with shoulder width overhand grip. Keep your back straight and your elbows close to your sides. Your knees should be slightly bent.
- 2Raise the bar to your chest while holding the upper arms fixed. Squeeze your biceps as you exhale. Only move your forearms.
- 3Hold the contraction for one or two seconds and then slowly lower the barbell.
⚠️ Common mistakes
- Allow your elbows to move away from your body
- Use explosive movements
